Filip Laporcak Wiki

Born in Sobrance, Slovakia, Laporcak immigrated to Newark, New Jersey in 1998. Living there for two years, his family decided to make another move to Saint Catharines, Ontario, Canada where he spent most of his childhood. He naturally became interested in mixed martial arts through watching early UFC fights and through his dad having been a former competitor back in Slovakia.

In 2007, he began his mixed martial arts journey at Straight Blast Gym of Niagara in Saint Catharines under head coach Rich Beaupitt. Through SBG, he secured some amateur fights based in Montreal, Quebec and put together an undefeated record of 3-0. In high-school, he competed in various wrestling and grappling tournaments and became well-known throughout the Niagara region for his natural talent in combat sports. A few years after his high-school graduation he moved to Newmarket, Ontario while keeping active training sessions at SBG. However, it was common to find Laporcak mingling with top-notch coaches and fighters including a personal one-on-one training session with Chris Weidman’s striking coach Ray Longo at Longo-Weidman MMA on Long Island in February 2016.

It was at this time Laporcak looked into something that could really boost his reputation and with the help of SBG, he was able to compete in the Amateur MMA Provincial Championship event in Brantford, Ontario.

It was here he fought and defeated Lonnie Herrington with a third-round rear-naked choke submission for the 185-pound Ontario Grappling Association’s MMA Championship title. This win granted Laporcak entry into the Canadian National Amateur MMA Championship Tryouts in Lethbridge, Alberta in May of 2016.

In his opening fight in Alberta, Laporcak faced Travis Lussier and finished him via TKO in the second round.

Laporcak faced Colton Boxell in the second day of the tournament and finished him via TKO in the third round.

This victory earned him a chance at the International Mixed-Martial Arts Federation World Title in Las Vegas, Nevada in July of 2016. Laporcak learned that he and seven other division representatives would have the opportunity to be accompanied and cornered in Vegas by Lee Mein (Jordan Mein’s father) and current UFC lightweight contender Kajan Johnson.

In preparation for Vegas, Laporcak wanted to ensure his training was of the highest calibre and this is when he discovered a new gym in Etobicoke, Ontario called Xtreme Couture. He learned of the training services offered by UFC light-heavyweight fighter Misha Cirkunov and his coach Rob Santos at this gym and took it upon himself to get all the coaching he needed from fighters of a stronger skill-set.

In his first fight of the Vegas tournament, Laporcak fought Toni Stockmann where a series of leg kicks and punches rendered him unable to continue the fight in round one in his first and only loss.

Upon returning to Newmarket, he vowed to continue training solely under Cirkunov and Santos. Over the next few months, he also had numerous opportunities to train with Glory kickboxing fighters' Simon Marcus and Matt Embree.

Laporcak’s dedication to attending training sessions at the gym and working with Cirkunov and Santos has positioned him as one of Cirkunov’s top training partners in his UFC fights. Laporcak was a part of his training preparation for his bouts against Ion Cutelaba, Nikita Krylov, Volkan Oezdemir and Glover Teixeira.

In the meantime, Rob Santos cornered Laporcak in a match against Matt Northcott at Wreck MMA Amateur Fighting Championships in London, Ontario in April 2017. Laporcak defeated Northcott via unanimous decision to return to a winning streak.

Laporcak continues training at Xtreme Couture Etobicoke and served as Misha Cirkunov's assistant cornerman in his fight against Glover Teixeira on Dec. 16, 2017, for UFC on Fox 26.

Laporcak intends to start his professional mixed martial arts career in 2018.
