AJ Matthews was a featured prospect in 2010 on EA Sports MMA Sherdog Fighter Exchange. After amassing an underwhelming 6-2 record, Matthews entered Bellator MMA's reality television series competition, Fight Master. Matthews scored a unanimous decision victory over Darryl Cobb, then selecting Randy Couture as his head coach. Still known for his prospect status despite his professional losses, Matthews was ranked at #4 out of 16 in the elimination round of the competition. However, the high ranking did not help him stay in the competition, as #7-ranked Eric Bradley defeated Matthews via unanimous decision.
